greydon square had this posted on his facebook today, and i had to repost it here. some speculated that it was too dumb to be real, but the girls seem the same as many that i grew up with still know. you decide.
i've heard others say that, that it seems staged or fake. what's so unbelievable about it? i've been on the receiving end of many such discussions with ppl who, on appearances, seem perfectly sane and intelligent. be it due to faith, race, class, or gender - when someone feels superior to you, all kinds of dumb shit will come out of their mouths in their attempts to put you in your place. next time i'll record it.
When this video first came out the tags listed next to the video were different than they are now. Poe's Law was the first tag listed. That gives me reason to believe that they were making a parody out of out of this totally believable scenario. I liked the part when she said she had to go, she was going home to eat more rice. Lol!
i had to google poe's law, and this is definitely a demonstration of it. for anyone wondering: Poe's Law makes the clear point that it is hard to tell parodies of fundamentalism from the real thing, since they both seem equally insane. (from rationalwiki.com)
i wish that i thought this was a parody, but i think it's real. saraswati's personal conviction was inspiring and i can only hope that if i ever have teenagers they are that strong in the face of greater numbers and silly logic.
i am not an atheist, but i find aggressive religions distasteful, those teenage girls ignorance distasteful (have they never seen a map), and this is the kind of thing that makes me frightened about the future of our country.

I think that this video is as real as religion is.
